I recently discovered a resource that would be good for teachers, parents, and writers.  It's a book called Silly Books To Read Aloud by Rob Reid.

As a picture book writer, reading specialist, and former first grade teacher I'm pretty familiar with silly read alouds. However, I have to admit, this book has helped me discover some fantastic ones that I had never heard of before.
(From Amazon)
Acclaimed children’s book authority Rob Reid creates the ultimate guide to choosing fun and funny stories to read with and to your children and grandchildren. With a concentrated look at the content and appeal of many different titles, he helps you find exactly the right books to share with young ones. More than simply a recommended reading list, the books in this guide assist with language development while also encouraging good reading habits, improved comprehension, and broadened vocabulary. Those looking for suggestions outside this book will find a "Hall of Fame" listing of notable children's literature authors for any age level. Featuring a comprehensive selection of stories for preschoolers, emergent readers, and children ready for chapter books, this guide is a go-to for parents, grandparents, teachers, and caregivers.
The book is broken down into five sections:
1. The Silliest PIcture Books
2. The Silliest Easy Readers
3. The Silliest Chapter Books
4. The Silliest Poetry Books
5. The Silliest Graphic Novels and Manga

The beginning section of the book contains A Parents Guide to the Benefits of Sharing Humor with Children.

And at the end of the book there is a Hall of Fame Guide to the Funniest Children's Authors and Illustrators. He gives you his top ten and explains what it is about their writing that makes them so funny.

Each section gives you the book information and a summary which often includes a snippet of text from the book.   This book has a copyright of 2013. And the author has done a great job of compiling a resource of silly books both older and new alike!

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on some of these silly books that I have yet to discover.
