Imagine you're playing in your bedroom and you find a doorway under your bed. Where does it lead, what happens when you get there, and how do you get back?

I open the doorway and grabbed my flashlight before descending the dark staircase. After what felt like a gazillion steps, the steps ended at another door. I opened it just a crack to see what was on the other side. A bedroom was there, not mine, but it did belong to a girl. Laughter filled the room but I couldn't see anyone so I carefully crawled through the doorway. I crouched silently behind a dresser hoping that I could not be seen or heard when...

"Hey, who are you?" said a little girl who looked strangely familiar. "I'm Samantha, want to play?"

That's odd, Samantha is my Mommy's name.

The doorway is tiny, I turn the doorknob and it opens. I can see the night sky, the stars - and a flash of light near the treehouse. The flash of light comes closer, it has wings and a face! "That's my door, Papa built it for me! I don't have to share it with you!" the tiny fairy says, hands on hips. Suddenly other flashes of light are around, dozens of fairies surround the door near my treehouse!

Descending the steep steps and slowly opening the door I step through only to find myself shivering with cold and all around me snow is falling. On hearing a sharp bark I turn to find a beautiful brown huskie dog staring at me. Knowing he has my attention he turns as if begging me to follow him. He leads me deep into the forest where I come across a man hurt by a fallen tree. Turns out this is my missing father. How come he is here in this strange white land so different from the one I live in? Will I stay with him or return to the foster home I have come to love?

Out of the dark of night, right when I’m about to fall asleep, a sliver of light crawls across the bedroom floor. “Are you coming or not?” a voice calls me from under the bed. A small door swings wide open, and tiny girl stands in the doorway, with her hands on her hips. Her hair reaches all the way to the floor, and she is glowing.

Getting through the door is easy, even though the doorway is smaller than my own hand. The girl turns around, and with a sparkly grin on her face, she leaps off the doorstep. I tumble into the darkness behind her, her voice guiding me like a faraway echo, “Finally! I’ve been waiting for years to take you to the star of your own dreaming.”

Tush tush, click click click! I am playing in my room with my new "Remote Bot" . I'm trying to master the skill of making him go FOREWARD and BACKWARD with the little control box in my hand. But the Bot is heading under my bed and I can't turn it around! I can't even make it STOP. I can't even turn the power button switch him off! He's heading under my bed! "Stop!" I yell pointlessly. Suddenly I hear a tiny whistle of a voice cry,"FREEEE!" I crawl under the bed for the Bot but ... It's gone! It has disappeared! What I do discover is something I'd never noticed before, not even playing hide and seek with me sister... A tiny door right in the floor! "You come BACK!," I yell as I jerk back the door and dive in after him! Suddenly I smell a familiar smell. Oil. I see trees and houses made completely of nuts and bolts! I have a great adventure in BotLand.

I've seen the little door on Grandpa's bedpost ever since I could see.
It's small, wide at the bottom and pointy at the top.
Grandpa says it's an adventure door.
"It's only got one adventure left," he says.
I've wanted to open it forever, but Grandpa always says no.
"It's not time for that adventure yet," he says, with a sad look in his eyes.

Today Grandpa didn't cough as much,
but he still didn't have enough energy for catch.

"Want to read some books?" I asked.
Grandpa looked at me and shook his head.

"Listen to the radio?"
No again.

"I want to open the door," he said,
"and I want you to come with me."

I didn't really know what he meant, but I helped Grandpa out of bed.
"Need shoes," he said.
So we got them on.

Then he put his hand on the door and smiled.
"You ready for this?" he asked.

I nodded my head.
"Let's go then!" he said, and with a shaky hand he turned the knob and the door creaked open.

A hand reaches under the bed, feeling around for the missing toy that rolled beneath only seconds before. The fingers smack into something big and hard. And stuck. The little hand gives a tug... but it doesn't budge. What is that? Eyes join the hand's investigation. A door knob. A door knob? Another set of eyes peer curiously beneath the draped bed sheets. "Open it" little sister whispers. Big brother is brave. "You open it" he says to sister. Squeeeeeeeack. Little hand turns big knob with four eyes watching... the door lifts...
