Indestructibles

Last week, I shared some of Harper's favorite cloth books, since he loves to eat the board books. After that post, I discovered a new kind of book. (Well, new to me.) I thought my only options for babies that eat books were cloth books or those plastic bath books.
It turns out, there is a company called Workman that publishes a line of books called Indestructibles. And that's what they are. Literally indestructible. These books look and feel like paper, so babies think they are getting away with something when they get their sticky little paws on these books.  But when they go to rip it, bite it, tear it, shake it, drool on it, spill water all over it, NOTHING HAPPENS.

These books are Non-toxic, Rip-proof, Tear-proof, and Water-Proof. And now they are Harper-Proof. I actually tried ripping the book myself and I couldn't do it.

They have a line of books, so there are many to choose from. However, before you buy them, realize that most of them are wordless, even the nursery rhymes. Wordless books are totally fine, but if you were expecting words, don't.

They do have four books that have words and Harper loves these.

Baby Peekaboo and Baby Night Night have sentences and phrases. Baby Babble is more of a labeling book. And Baby Faces simply has one word on each page. Below are a few pages from Baby Faces.

As you can see, they all have super cute illustrations.

These books are definitely Mommy and Harper approved!

Hi Mandy,
YES, these were originally created by my friend Kaaren Pixton,(illustrator and art educator) here with the Oregon SCBWI chapter!!! She had grand babies of triplets!!! Karren made the original 6 books for them out of necessity ! They are beautiful as well, check out, Jungle Rumble, Mama and Baby, Flip Flop Pond. I buy these for baby shower gifts now. Glad you found them . You can check out her site @ www.kaaren-pixton.squarespace.com

Oh wow! That's incredible. I checked out Kaaren's webpage. Her illustrations are absolutely beautiful. I just wish they would have put the nursery rhyme text in the actual book with the illustrations versus printed on the back. I'm wondering if it had something to do with cost of printing? Regardless, her illustrations are beautiful and the book concept is genius!

I had never heard of these until a friend, bookstore lover & author Alex Hinrichs, included them in a guest post she did on my website last year. I had to check them out, and they are fabulously tough and lots of fun! So glad to see them getting more attention.

I can't believe I had never heard of them before. I wish they could carry them in Babies R Us or Barnes and Noble or somewhere more people would see them and know about them.
