Ned The NO-It-All!

Ned was two. Yes that was true.
What was his mommy going to do?
If she smiled and said, "Bedtime, let's go!"
He'd puff his cheeks and whimper, NO!

She begged, she begged, she threatened, OH!"
Ned stood his ground and hollered NO!

Do you want a treat like something sweet
Some chocolate milk and cookie dough?
He'd blink his eyes and no surprise
He'd flail and wail NO Mama NO!

If Mom said, lets play in the snow!
Ned said No, don't want to go!
Mud and dirt smeared head to toe
Lets take a bath! No no no NO!

His angry bark cut through the dark
Her little pup turned his nose up
She'd ask loud and high or soft and low
But all Ned answered would be, NO!

Mom understood this wasn't good
But didn't let it show
Sit down, stand UP
My little pup
Don't be rude, Ned, Eat your food Ned or you'll never grow
Ned clinched his teeth and underneath the table came a- NO!

"I try and TRY" his mother cried,
Her tears began to flow
My boy's a mess I must confess but
Why I just don't know!

She kissed him softly on his cappy
"Does shouty pouty make Ned happy?"
And THEN ... it happened
Yes it did and tell me, can you guess?
Her little Ned "The NO It All" just smiled
And answered,
"YES!"

"It's time to wake up, Neddy dear."

"No mama, no, no, no!
I don't want to wake up."

Lights on.
Blankets off.
Breakfast smells good.

"Don't forget to drink your milk, Ned-cake."

"No, mama, no, no, no!
I don't want my milk!"

Softly scrambled eggs.
Sticky peanut butter pancakes.
Full glass to quench thirst.

"Mommy, can I have a cookie, PLEASE?"

"No, Ned, not right now."

Chocolatey, smooshy, cookies.
No, Ned, no???
Say yes, mama, say yes!

"Yes to cookies and milk!
Yes to waking up to play!
Say 'yes' to Ned!" he says.

Smiles.
Hugs and kisses.
Warm cookie into small, soft hands.

"Thank you for your 'yesses' Ned.
Aren't they great?
Waking and milk and cookies?"

"Yes, momma, yes." :)
