One of our missions at the Children's Book Academy is to reach out and provide opportunities for all creatives. This includes free opportunities to learn through our engaging webinars, fun contests with prizes, and scholarships to help those in achieving their professional goals. Our scholarships are designed to help bring more diversity of all kinds into the children's literature field and are currently offered to folks who identify as LBQTI, having a disability, being a person of color, or being low income. In addition, we also invite SCBWI RAs, ARAs, and ICs to apply, whether or not they identify with the above, because they do so much for our community. Please peruse our past and current offerings. To get first notice of these opportunities, please sign up for our not too frequent but often helpful newsletter here.

For Writers and Illustrators: 2nd Visual Stories and the Craft of Contradiction with Chronicle Books' Kristine Brogno
Some of the funnest children's books feature what's called a 2nd visual story where either the writer has written the visual story in or the illustrator plays with their illustrator voice by adding another layer with their own purely illustrated story that isn't included in the text. Other times the writer and the illustrator do a dance between image and text to create something extraordinary that's greater than the sum of it's parts. In this fun FREE webinar, Chronicle Books Design Director and Art Director extraordinaire Kristine Brogno, and CBA founder Dr. Mira Reisberg will do a show and tell about improving your craft with both of these techniques. See some of Kristine's fabulous work here: http://www.chroniclebooks.com/titles/kids-teens
Hosted by Mark Mitchell of Marks and Splashes on Friday October 17th at 5PM Pacific Daylight Time, don't miss this exceptional event. Register now with the form below (don't forget to hit submit) and please share this page with your friends. :)
