Every Shabbat, Sadie's Nana tells the most wonderful stories about their ancestors. Sadie hangs on Nana's every word. She hopes more than anything to be able to tell incredible stories like Nana. This is a beautiful story about the strong bond between a grandmother and grandchild, family traditions, and storytelling. The illustrations are gorgeous and complement the text perfectly. This is a perfect read aloud for families to enjoy together and will likely spark conversations about the readers' ancestors

SADIE'S SHABBAT STORIES is the perfect book to read with children at Shabbat or at any time. Although the stories focus on tales of Jewish ancestors and their belongings, this book really is about family ties...of any religion. Reading about the travels Sadie's relatives took and their difficulties will spark important conversations, and will hopefully inspire children to tell their own stories. The wonderful writing and the gorgeous illustrations make this a book to be read over and over again.

Sadie's Shabbat Stories is a beautiful book that celebrates Jewish traditions through the tender inter-generational bond between Sadie and her grandmother. This, stunningly illustrated story, connects Sadie's family traditions to their personal histories, which strengthens Sadie's bond with her grandmother, and also gives her a deeper understanding of her faith, while adding meaning and relevance to each tradition. This is a celebration of how traditions and faith are richly inter-woven like threads in a tapestry. Its uniqueness is so universal and defines how we all connect through stories of tradition and faith- and I believe all faiths share this. I highly recomment this as an excellent book for classrooms and also inter-faith discussions.

I loved reading Sadie's Shabbat Stories by Melissa Stoller. It is a gorgeous and endearing story about a little girl named Sadie and her Nana who celebrate Shabbat together every week. Sadie and her grandmother bake challah and set the table together. The sweet grandchild listens to Nana tell her story about Sadie's ancestors through the objects like the story about the candlesticks, the kiddush cup story, and the challah cover story. Eventually Sadie tells Nana her own story. The beautiful tone and language used by the author and the gorgeous sweeping illustrations by Lisa Goldberg swept me away to my own stories that my family holds dear as well as to stories about the Jewish people and their traditions. Sadie's Shabbat Stories is a must read for any family with young children! Not only is a beautiful tale based on Melissa Stoller's own family stories, but it is a guide to help a family learn how to share important stories about their grandparents, great-grandparents, and all the descendants who came before them. It is so important to remember our precious family stories and heritage. Well done, Melissa!

When I read a review online that the drawings in 'Sadie's Shabbat Stories' were "Chagall-like," I thought I would get a copy for my family. We couldn't be more pleased. The story is warm and loving and the illustrations add a fanciful dream-like element that captured our imagination. We'll definitely be reading it again and again.
