21st Century Nonfiction Panel
Sue has generously gifted a copy of her hilarious upcoming 13 Ways to Eat a Fly book to one of the live attendees in the Writing 21st Century Nonfiction panel. Due out in February 2021, science meets subtraction in this fresh and funny STEM picture book with plenty of ewww factor to please young readers. A swarm of thirteen flies buzzes along, losing one member to each predator along the way. Whether the unfortunate insects are zapped or wrapped, liquefied or zombified, the science is real--and hilariously gross. Includes a guide to eating bugs, complete with nutritional information for a single serving of flies.

Heavy-hitter Nancy is gifting her book, For Spacious Skies, Katharine Lee Bates and the Inspiration for "America the Beautiful". Katharine Lee Bates first wrote the lines to "America the Beautiful" after a stirring visit to Pikes Peak in 1893. But the story behind the song begins with Katharine herself, who pushed beyond conventional expectations of women to become an acclaimed writer, scholar, suffragist, and reformer.

Fiction from Life Panel
Melissa's new book just came out in October, and one lucky Paloozian will be given a copy. The main character in Sadie’s Shabbat Stories loves listening to Nana's tales, especially about the traveling candlesticks, kiddush cup, and challah cover they use every Friday night. Will Sadie ever be able to tell her own special Shabbat stories, just like Nana?

Moni's debut picture The Star Festival will be released in April 2021, and she is giving a copy away to one lucky attendee at her Fiction from Life panel. The book is based on a popular folktale about the Heavens and his daughter stars who are separated but reunite on the Milky Way bridge. Using beautiful language, it shows how cultural traditions and traditional folktales can have contemporary relevance.

Writing for Social Justice Panel
One lucky recipient will get a copy of Walkout, Tina's debut picture book.
The book is inspired by a true story about a school's anti-violence walkout. Other kids throughout the States are walking out, but the main character's principal has announced that only older grades can participate. Maddie tries to convince her friend to participate in democracy in action despite her fears. You need to be there to win this. |
