  • entertaining informational fiction about the sun and solar system
By rae on March 27, 2020
With so many children staying at home right now, I’m sure parents are looking for educational picture books to keep their little minds stimulated and learning. I know I am.  If Sun Could Speak is a delightfully entertaining and educational read. Kourtney LaFavre (the author) and Saki Tanaka (the illustrator) imbued sun with so much personality and (dare I say) sparkle. The sun addresses the child reader in an engaging conversation about what makes the sun so special, how humans’ understanding of the sun has evolved over time, and how you, too, can observe, ask questions, and learn about nature. In the process they learn child-friendly facts about our solar system, the size and temperature of the sun, and even some basic sun-safety tips. This sun will really “make your day!”

  • Excellent Stem Resource for Young Children
    By Gail Cimino-Krause on March 17, 2020
Chock full of scientific, astral concepts, If Sun Could Speak is a treasure. Children won’t even be aware that they are being introduced to Earth/Space science. But it doesn’t stop there— Social Studies is also incorporated by the introduction of various ancient societies that worshipped the sun, and a timeline of scientists that studied it. La Favre’s writing breathes originality into the character of the sun as it delivers scientific information in a light-hearted way that will interest everyone, even the reluctant reader. Tanaka’s illustrations are vibrant and playful and match the personality of the sun perfectly.

  • Fun and informative story will brighten your day!
By DellaRF on March 13, 2020
"Allow me to introduce myself. I’m the sun — a glorious star. Not a fashionable and famous person from the movies, but an actual star."  So begins IF SUN COULD SPEAK, narrated - very cleverly - from the point of view of the sun. Children will enjoy the sun's personality as he shares interesting facts about himself and other planets in the solar system, including planet Earth. Both educational and entertaining, this story is wonderful for parents or teachers to share with ages 5-8.

  • Sun with Spunk!
By AC on April 16, 2020
If Sun Could Speak is a brilliant book with a voice that hooks you from the first sentence. Sun shines with its brilliant personality and spunky character as it narrates its own story. Creation, scientific discoveries, and concepts are all portrayed in an engaging language, complemented by colorful and enlightening illustrations. Both the author and illustrator did a magnificent job teaching children in an entertaining way about the importance and significance of the Sun. Bravo!

By Jolene Gutiérrez on March 15, 2020
This gorgeous book shares so much information about our sun! Kids will want to read the story again and again to examine the colorful illustrations and to explore the facts that Sun, the narrator, shares with us. You'll learn about things like the rotation of Earth around Sun, stories about Sun from other cultures, and important scientists who've studied the Sun. This book is a must in classrooms, libraries, and homes! It's the perfect blend of fun and fact!

  • Fascinating and fun read!
By Meera Sriram on March 16, 2020
Narrated in first person voice, Sun shares everything from its size, position, importance, and history of evolution as discovered by thinkers and scientists. My favorite aspect of the book is how it encourages little readers to be curious, think, and explore. This is evident on the spread that talks about diverse theories and discoveries from ancient times to today which ends with a prompt for the reader, what can YOU do today? Overall, this is a fun and very creative STEM read for young children!

If Sun Could Speak by Kourtney LaFavre is a fabulous, information packed picture book about our sun. In a cheeky first-person voice, the sun talks the reader through facts, history and myths about our biggest star. A super interesting read! Bright and cheerful art by Saki Tanaka complement this STEM text perfectly.
